Anika James Performing Arts Scholarship at Jordan High School

As a tribute to Anika and her love for the performing arts, Anika’s family established two scholarships at her alma mater, Jordan High School in Durham NC.  One was for the senior class and one for the class of 2009, which was the year Anika would graduate.  In 2010, the Class 2009 Scholarship was replaced with a second scholarship for the senior class.   In 2012 the Anika James Foundation adopted these scholarships as part of its ongoing projects. Anika James Performing Arts Scholarship for NATS Competitors

This scholarship has been established to promote young female singers who participate in the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition.  It is offered to female competitors in the Music Theater Competition. Anika participated in this competition in 2006 when she was only 14 years old.  She received high marks for a first-time participant and was selected to compete in the finals. Anika James Center of Learning in Battambang, Cambodia

The Anika James Center of Learning was built in 2010 in Battambang, Cambodia.  It is part of Cambodia Organization for Research, Development, and Education (CORDE).  The center of learning serves over 100 children and junior youths on a daily basis who come to the center for studies. The Anika James Center of Learning is also used for education of the villagers as well as for other social actions, such as the World Environmental Day. In 2011 two programs at CORDE (Cambodian Organization for research, Development and Education) in Cambodia were funded. Kindergarten/Preschool:  In a research by the Education Office in Battambang, it was found that the children who did not attend pre-school were more likely to drop out of primary school.  Since there were no preschools in most of the villages and no financial resources in Education office, CORDE was invited to facilitate preschool through building capacity and using volunteers to become owners of community schools...
