The Anika James Foundation Chrysalis Award

A central purpose of the Anika James Foundation is to promote an environment where children may achieve their full potential and express their unique, God-given beauty. Since our Anika was known as a social butterfly, a butterfly has become the symbol of the Foundation. For a juvenile caterpillar to transform into a glorious butterfly, it must have the solid support and safe environment provided by its chrysalis. In a similar way, children must have solid support and a safe environment as they make their way through adolescence into adulthood. Parents, teachers, coaches, counselors, and other mentors help provide this support. With our “Chrysalis Award”, we honor an individual who—through care, attentiveness, dedication, selfless love and a sacrificial attitude—has rendered outstanding service in supporting children in our community.
